#WorkSchoolHours named Finalist by Australian Business Book Awards
#WorkSchoolHours – A Revolution for Parents, Workplaces and the World by Dr Ellen Joan Ford is the book that’s changing the game for workplaces around the world. Now, it’s been named as one of the top business books of the year in the Australian Business Book Awards.
The 2024 book, published by Intelligent Ink Press, focuses on the systemic problem of working hours and working conditions becoming unsustainable for the majority of people, especially as they become parents. Dr Ford’s research has led to a comprehensive framework solution that offers flexibility to employees as well as better commercial outcomes for organisations.
#WorkSchoolHours is surrounded by a larger movement calling for better workplace flexibility and productivity. Alongside the book, Dr Ford has done a TEDx talk about the #WorkSchoolHours movement. She has also released two digital courses – one designed for working parents as they navigate the working world, and the other tailored to business leaders who want to drive a sustainable work environment for their people.
While still in its early stages, the #WorkSchoolHours movement has grabbed the attention of some of New Zealand’s most prominent voices in the leadership world, including Mark Crysell (TVNZ Sunday), Steve Jurkovich (KiwiBank CEO), Major General John Boswell, and Adam Heath (Farmers Mutual CEO). The impact of #WorkSchoolHours has also gained Dr Ford recognition as the winner of the 2024 Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award as well as the 2023 KiwiBank Local Hero.
Now, Ellen’s book has been named among the top publications of the year by the Australian Business Book Awards as one of two finalists in the HR & Management category.

#WorkSchoolHours was published by Intelligent Ink Press in March 2024 with cover design by Hannah Boom and internal design by Imelda Morgan at Two Sparrows.
Intelligent Ink Press was born out of a need for more accessible publishing services in the NZ market. We specialise in thought leadership books that are, by nature, niche, boundary-pushing works that don’t always fit the confines of the traditional publishing model. This builds on Intelligent Ink’s mission to bring better thinking to the world and our belief that books are one of the most powerful tools to strengthen and spread new ideas.
#WorkSchoolHours is proving that.
